Presented by the Humanities Research Centre as part of our 50th Anniversary Celebrations

This interactive workshop will help you to project your research to the broader public and improve your writing.

Wednesday 31 July, 2-4pm. Room E4.44 Baldessin Building (#110) Ellery Cres ACTON

In a small collaborative group you will:

  • Learn media techniques to connect with your audience.
  • Discuss possibilities of persuasion in polarised times.
  • Delve into the interaction between opinion and social media.
  • Explore the history and value of newspaper opinion editorials
  • Share experiences, challenges and tips on writing for the many.
     

Facilitator:Scott Stephens has worked with many academics as the ABC’s Religion & Ethics online editor. He also co-hosts, with Waleed Aly, of The Minefield on ABC Radio National. He and Waleed Aly are the authors of Quarterly Essay 87, Uncivil Wars: How Contempt is Corroding Democracy (2022). He has published widely on moral philosophy and democratic theory. Scott is editor of Justice and Hope: Essays, Lectures and Other Writings by Raimond Gaita (2023). Scott Stephens is at the ANU to present to the HRC 50th Anniversary Distinguished lecture, How to Withstand the Threats to our Shared Humanity: “The Only Way to Fight the Plague is with Decency”.
